What is Mantrailing?

How many dogs train on a session or course?

We only allow a maximum of six dogs on an Introduction Course, Mantrailing Progression Session or Scentwork Course.

Why should I consider Mantrailing or Scentwork for my dog?

Are Mantrailing and Scentwork suitable for all dog breeds?

Absolutely - Both Mantrailing and Scentwork are suitable for any breed, any age and even reactive or nervous dogs.

How do I get started with Mantrailing or Scentwork?

Before you join any of our Mantrailing events you will need to have complete our Introduction course. Details of our courses can be found under Book Now page.

Anyone can join a Scentwork Game Workshop or Course.

What equipment do I need for Mantrailing?

You will need a harness (not a no pull harness) and long line around 10 metres for your dog as well as fresh water and treats.

You may need warm, waterproof clothing in inclement weather as well as suitable footwear.

What equipment do I need for Scentwork?

You will need a flat collar and long lead for your dog as well as fresh water and treats.

You may need warm, waterproof clothing in inclement weather as well as suitable footwear for Scentwork Games Workshops.

How long does it take to train a dog for Mantrailing?

Our induction course last for three to four hours but training doesn’t stop there. You and your dog will learn more at every session you attend as the layouts, scents as well as weather conditions that affect your dog’s sense of smell will be different each time you attend.

You can progress your dog through different levels of achievements from levels 1-5 by attending different events that we hold.

How long does it take to train a dog for Scentwork?

Our Scentwork Games Workshop starts at 10am and finishes around 4pm.

Can Mantrailing and Scentwork be a recreational activity, or is it only for professional use?

Kilo Nine only teach Mantrailing and Scentwork as a sport that is fun for you and your dog.

Dog's should never be offered as Operational Mantrailing or Scent Detection Dog's under any circumstances unless you are both operationally qualified.

What should I expect during a Mantrailing training session?

Your dog will need to spend a short amounts of time on their own in the car while you attend the safety brief and then again while you act as a trail layer for other dogs.

Are there age restrictions for dogs to participate in Mantrailing or Scentwork?

All we ask is that if your dog has severe reactivity, you let us know before you attend so we can put plans in place to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.

Can I watch a Mantrailing session before enrolling my dog?

Absolutely - but you will need to give us a call and let us know which session you will be attending. If you bring your dog with you, they will not be allowed to participate in the trail.

How much does mantrailing training cost?

Our introduction courses cost £55.00 and progression sessions cost £25.00 

We sometimes hold special events and competitions; these will be priced individually on the website.

How do I contact you for more information or to schedule training?

All our dates and training sessions are planned in advance and are ready to purchase from the website.

We can hold one to one training sessions should you require, these will be priced differently from our group training sessions and you will need to contact us in advance to arrange a time and location.

If you are a club or a breed society and wish to book a private event, please give us a call or send an email and we will arrange a private event for you.
